From manufacturability to pilot series and small series production under one roof

Injection Molding at PEZY

Whether you want to validate your product with injection molded parts, run a pilot series (0-series / 10–5,000 units), or are looking for a reliable partner for plastic injection molding in small to medium volumes: at PEZY you bring design, engineering, tooling, and injection molding production together under one roof in our Pilot Factory in Groningen.
This enables fast iterations, realistic validation, and a smooth transition to series production — with minimal risk and cost.

What is Injection Molding?

The most efficient and precise way to produce plastic parts

Injection molding is the most widely used manufacturing process for thermoplastic parts. Plastic granules are melted in an injection molding machine and injected under high pressure into a mold. Once cooled, the mold opens and the finished part is automatically ejected. This cyclic process makes injection molding extremely suitable for producing accurate and repeatable parts. It works well for both high volumes and for pilot and small series production, provided the right approach and tooling are chosen.

High precision and complexity possible

Injection molding enables the production of highly complex shapes and fine details with excellent accuracy. Thanks to the high injection pressure, the molten plastic perfectly fills even the smallest features of the mold. This allows for thin walls from 0.5 mm, fine ribs, threads, textures, and undercuts all in a single step. At PEZY, we use flow simulations to detect and prevent issues such as warping or incomplete filling at an early stage. The result is precise and functional parts with minimal post processing.

Excellent surface quality

Injection molding delivers parts with a very high surface quality straight out of the mold. The high pressure and controlled cooling create smooth and consistent surfaces without the layers or roughness typical of 3D printing. Textures, high gloss, matte finishes, or structured surfaces can be incorporated directly into the mold. At PEZY, we optimize mold finishing and process parameters so that both aesthetic and technical surfaces often require no further finishing.

Strong mechanical properties

Injection molding produces parts with excellent mechanical properties, including high strength, stiffness, and impact resistance. The high pressure and uniform cooling result in a dense and consistent structure that often outperforms 3D printing or other prototyping methods. At PEZY, we select the right material and optimize the process including cooling and pressure so the parts meet the functional requirements for use in prototypes, pilots, and series production.

Cost efficient at higher volumes

Injection molding is particularly cost effective for medium to larger series. Although the mold requires an initial investment, it pays for itself quickly thanks to short cycle times, high automation, and minimal post processing. At PEZY, we often use aluminum molds for pilot and small series production. This keeps tooling costs low while still delivering representative and production quality parts. This makes the transition from prototype to series production fast and affordable.

From prototype to injection molded production in our Pilot Factory

At PEZY we combine design, engineering, mold making, and injection molding production in our own Pilot Factory in Groningen. This creates short communication lines, fast iterations, and minimal risks. We guide you from a digital design or 3D prototype to representative injection molded parts that you can test and validate immediately.

Important design rules for injection molding

Good design is the foundation for successful injection molded parts (DFM)

Many problems in injection molding projects originate in the design phase. That is why PEZY always performs a thorough Design for Manufacturing (DFM) analysis. This prevents expensive mold modifications and results in better, cheaper, and more reliable parts.

Key design rules and points of attention:

  • Draft angle
A minimum taper on vertical walls is essential for smooth ejection. Guideline: 1° to 3° per side. Insufficient draft can cause sticking, scratches, or damaged parts.

  • Wall thickness
Keep the wall thickness as uniform as possible, preferably between 1.5 and 4 mm (depending on the material). Large variations can lead to sink marks, warping, and longer cycle times.

  • Fillets and ribs
All sharp edges should have a radius (minimum 0.5 mm). Ribs should be no more than 60% of the wall thickness to avoid sink marks.

  • Cycle time optimization
Wall thickness, cooling channels, and material choice have a major impact on cycle time. A well designed part reduces production time and lowers the cost price.

With our experience and flow simulations we identify these issues early, so your mold works correctly from the first trial.
