What is the foundation of successful product development?

Control manufacturability, unit cost and risk before investing heavily in engineering

In practice, projects tend to go wrong at familiar points: manufacturability is considered too late, disciplines work in sequence rather than together, and decisions about volume, tooling or certification are postponed until they become expensive. After hundreds of projects, we know where R&D programmes lose time and budget—and how to prevent that structurally.

That is why we start with the full playing field: technology, business case and operations. Not to make the process heavier, but to establish early what needs to be proven. This lets you make evidence-based decisions towards a product that works in terms of function, unit cost and manufacturability.

Define the right product first

We do not start with a drawing of the solution, but with the decision your team needs to make. Who is the product for, what problem does it solve, and what is the minimum set of requirements for moving forward? We combine user needs, the competitive landscape, technical constraints and business objectives into a clear product definition. This prevents engineering time being spent on something that may be technically possible but is not strategically or commercially viable.

Identify technical feasibility and risks early

Before detailed engineering, we identify the critical risks: materials, manufacturing technology, tolerances, certification, supply chain and unit cost. We test assumptions early through calculations, tests or prototypes. This keeps open issues visible in the plan instead of allowing them to emerge as surprises during the pilot phase.

Design, engineering and production as one integrated chain

Production volume is a design decision, not a detail to address later. Whether you need 20 validation units, a pilot run of hundreds or a scale-up to thousands determines the tooling, process and investment profile. We design specifically for that path, so you are not locked into a production approach that is either too heavy or too light.

From prototype to pilot production and scale-up

We build prototypes to answer a specific open question—not simply because prototyping is expected. Demonstrators and pilot runs then allow us to test both the product and the process. This is how the design develops into something that works in practice and can be manufactured repeatedly, whether for small batches or higher volumes.

Sustainability and circularity in design decisions

Sustainability and circularity belong in the requirements, not just in the brochure. Early in the process, we consider materials, construction, disassembly and impact alongside function and unit cost. This keeps you compliant and credible with customers, regulators and internal ESG targets without undermining the business case.

Why R&D and innovation teams work with PEZY

Teams come to us because they want to move quickly without losing control of quality, unit cost and manufacturability. PEZY brings design, engineering, prototyping and realisation together in one scalable ecosystem.

  • One integrated development chain

Design, engineering, prototyping and small-batch production work closely together. Feedback from testing and manufacturing is therefore incorporated into the design quickly.

  • Validate critical assumptions early

We test key assumptions early. Problems emerge at a stage when adjustments are still affordable.

  • An approach tailored to the target volume

Tooling and working methods are aligned with the required volume. For pilots and small batches, this avoids over-engineered processes and premature, heavy investment.

  • One point of contact with traceable decision-making

Traceability, quality agreements and decision-making run through a single chain instead of multiple separate suppliers.

  • Scalability and sustainability built in

We incorporate scale-up, serviceability, supply risk and—where relevant—circularity into design decisions rather than treating them as afterthoughts.

From engineering to a manufacturable product

Develop the product right

Once the direction has been set, the focus shifts to reliability, manufacturability and scalability. This decision pack brings together the critical design, validation and industrialisation decisions.

Engineering and product architecture

Mechanics, electronics and software come together in one manageable architecture. We define interfaces, tolerances, cable routing, serviceability, unit cost and compliance early, ensuring that decisions work beyond the drawing board.

Prototyping and verification

Every iteration reduces a defined risk—from proof of principle to a near-production demonstrator. We test functions and failure modes for integration, reliability and use, as well as environmental conditions or service life where required.

Final engineering and industrialisation

We complete engineering with a focus on quality, repeatability and transferability. We then secure the process, tooling, supply chain, test strategy and production readiness for stable, cost-effective series production.
