Philips Avent: less pump noise, greater user comfort
With a breast pump, how the product sounds and feels matters. PEZY helped Philips improve the mechanical design of the Avent pump and guided the transition from tested parts to the start of production.
Introductie
Technology that supports the user experience
With a breast pump, noise and mechanical operation also determine comfort. PEZY helped Philips Avent further develop the technology and prepare the transition to production.
Kernresultaten
Reduced pump noise
A TPE motor suspension supports quieter mechanical operation.
Parts tested
Test parts and Moldflow analyses supported the development process.
Production start supported
PEZY assisted with the start-up at the Philips factory in China.
01 · De uitdaging
Improving comfort within strict product specifications
Philips wanted to make the Avent breast pump more comfortable to use.
Reducing noise and making contact with the product more comfortable were key priorities. The mechanical and material choices had to enable these improvements while continuing to meet the product specifications.

02 · De rol van PEZY
Improving the pump and material application
PEZY worked on reducing the noise of the mechanical pump within the Philips design.
We developed a TPE motor suspension and applied materials that feel comfortable against the skin. Once the design was complete, we supported the start of production at the Philips factory in China.

03 · De aanpak en het inzicht
Testing critical parts first
We produced test parts to evaluate the selected solutions.
For the critical plastic parts, we used Moldflow analyses to assess and optimise the design. This connected the desired user characteristics with the requirements of both the product and the injection-moulding process.

04 · De oplossing
Comfort through targeted mechanical choices
The TPE suspension supports quieter motor operation.
The material choices improve the product’s contact with the user. Together, these targeted changes to the mechanics and components enhance the breast pump’s user experience.

05 · Het resultaat
A fully developed design with support through to production
The collaboration took the comfort improvements from design through to the start of production.
Test parts and analyses supported the technical decisions, while on-site support at the factory helped transfer the design to production. The case thus demonstrates the connection between user comfort, plastics engineering and industrialisation.
Your product challenge
Which technical choice will improve your user experience?
We translate user comfort into specific requirements for mechanics, materials and production, and test the parts that are critical to achieving it.
