Plastics engineering and engineering plastics
The right material choice only works when design and production are right too.
Plastics engineering is one of PEZY’s core specialisms. We investigate how a plastic behaves, how the material can be processed and how a concept can be translated into a high-quality end product. Our strength lies in combining design, materials science and production expertise.
With decades of experience, we understand a wide range of plastics and production technologies. We look at the complete picture: product performance, assembly requirements, and the capabilities and requirements of the supply chain. This allows us to assess the material and design in the context in which the component will be manufactured and used.
The right material for the application
From widely used materials such as ABS, PC and PP to biopolymers and high-performance engineering plastics: the application determines the choice. We advise based on the required strength, flexibility, chemical resistance and sustainability, while also considering processing and in-use behaviour.
A well-considered design
Wall thicknesses, rib structures and component geometry affect both performance and manufacturability. We optimise the design for the required stability and efficient use of material. The aim is to strike the right balance between product performance and a design that can be produced efficiently.
Tolerances and assembly
Components must not only perform well individually, but also form a reliable assembly together. We define appropriate tolerances and assess how the components fit together. This makes assembly an integral part of the design from the engineering stage onwards.
The right production technology
We have experience in injection moulding, blow moulding, overmoulding and hybrid production technologies. By considering the process at an early stage, we can design even complex components for scalable industrial production. The capabilities of the process and the product requirements must be aligned.
Ready for mould making
We advise on parting lines, draft angles, rib structures and inserts. These details help determine whether the component can be released cleanly from the mould and manufactured reproducibly. Manufacturability is therefore not a final check, but an integral part of the design.
Product performance and supply chain
A technically sound design must also align with material availability, production and the supply chain. That is why we look beyond a single component or process. The relationship between product performance, assembly and production is the basis for our decisions.
Developing custom plastic components
Every application has its own technical, functional and aesthetic requirements. Simulations and digital analyses allow us to identify potential bottlenecks early, before the first mould is built. This reduces risks and limits costly iterations and modifications.

Analysing filling behaviour and shrinkage
Using a mould-filling simulation (mould flow analysis), we investigate how the plastic fills the mould and where shrinkage may occur. The results support design and process decisions before investing in a mould.

FEA: assessing strength and stiffness
Using finite element analysis (FEA), we assess how a component behaves under relevant loads. We use the analysis to substantiate strength, stiffness and service life, and to improve weak points in a targeted way.

Factoring in thermal behaviour
Thermal simulations provide insight into heat flows, cooling times and temperature effects. This enables us to assess where heat affects the component and how the design and process can be adapted accordingly.
Plastics engineering
From prototype to production
Digital analyses provide direction. In our prototyping and test facilities, we then evaluate how the design performs in practice. Tooling, pilot production and material choices remain closely connected throughout.
Hable One: from prototype to product
PEZY helped Hable develop its braille controller from prototype to product. Product design, mechanical and plastics engineering, electronics integration and certification came together in a compact controller for everyday use.

PEZY worked on a quieter Philips Avent breast pump featuring a TPE motor mount. Materials research, test components and support during the production launch brought mechanical development and production together.

PEZY helped Braster develop the electronics, housing, app and packaging in parallel. Within a year, these elements were ready for production—an example of integrated product development in which the housing and technology are developed together.
