Dorel Quinny Yezz: a compact folding frame made of plastic
A plastic stroller frame that is both light and folds down very small. For the Quinny Yezz PEZY combined design, strength analyses and manufacturing technique so the construction matched the desired user experience.

Folding small requires more than a light material
Dorel wanted to develop an exceptionally compact foldable buggy with a fully plastic frame.
The frame needed to be light, functional and manufacturable. Styling, hinge functions, structural strength and the chosen manufacturing technique directly influenced each other.

Developing design and engineering simultaneously
PEZY brought designers and engineers together to develop construction and styling in the same process.
We sought the balance between usability, strength, manufacturability and the compact folding principle. Material choice was part of the design, not an afterthought.

Simulating to refine the construction
Using simulations and strength analyses we explored how the frame could meet the various requirements.
Those insights helped the team align geometry, material and manufacturing technique. This allowed the design to be evaluated across disciplines before finalisation.
04 · De oplossing
A material-process combination for a light frame
The solution combines Ixef®, a polyarylamide, with gas injection in the mould.
That combination enabled a plastic construction that met the desired strength and low weight. The folding mechanism and styling are part of the same integrated solution.

A light buggy that folds down compactly
The development resulted in the frame for the Quinny Yezz.
The product brings together low weight and a compact folded size. The project demonstrates how material and production process can allow a different construction and thereby a different user experience.
