Victron Energy: an EV charger around existing electronics
A home EV charger built around existing core electronics. For Victron Energy PEZY combined a refreshed design with easy installation, weather protection and manufacturability.

Existing technology, a new product experience
The EV charger’s electronics were already fixed. The opportunity for improvement lay in the enclosure, controls and installation: exactly the parts that residents and installers interact with.

A new design within fixed technical limits
Victron Energy wanted to expand its solar energy portfolio with a home EV charger.
The product had to suit different homes while having its own character. The core electronics were already fixed. The available space and connections therefore formed the starting point for the redesign.

PEZY was commissioned to redesign the product while retaining the core electronics.
We focused on the shape, controls, enclosure and installation. We also advised on materials and peripheral electronics.

03 · De aanpak en het inzicht
Targeted changes, using existing technology
We investigated where a new solution would add value.
For example, we proposed a light ring with even light distribution as an alternative to the existing display. At the same time the main electronics were retained to limit investment and support a rapid launch. Water drainage and sealing were tested and improved; material choices and part connections had to be suitable for outdoor use.
04 · De oplossing
Calm styling and accessible installation
Neutral colours and smooth surfaces give the charger a restrained appearance.
The controls omit unnecessary information. A metal wall bracket supports drilling, levelling and mounting. When connecting the power cables only the connectors are accessible, reducing the risk of errors and damage to electronics.
05 · Het resultaat
A coherent redesign for home use
The solution combines a refreshed form and controls with an enclosure that considers production and installation.
The existing core technology continues to be used. Within Victron’s system the charger enables a car to be charged with home-generated solar energy.
