A larger dispenser requires more than a larger housing. For Katrin PEZY investigated how a taller towel stack could keep working reliably. Targeted experiments led to internal ribs that reduce the load on the bottom sheet.

A taller stack changes how it works
Metsä Tissue wanted to extend the Katrin range with an XL dispenser for high-traffic washrooms.
A larger housing was not enough: a taller stack of towels increases pressure on the bottom sheet. That can cause tearing or jamming. More capacity therefore had to go hand in hand with reliable dispensing and easy refilling.

PEZY developed the dispenser concept and investigated how the stack could be supported internally.
Attention was paid both to the user taking a towel and to the cleaner refilling the dispenser. The design had to work for both actions.

03 · De aanpak en het inzicht
Rapid experiments followed by practical testing
Targeted physical tests showed that support and controlled friction along the sides could reduce the load on the bottom sheet.
We developed that principle and had the dispenser tested by professional cleaning staff in realistic working situations. Their feedback helped evaluate dispensing and refilling.
04 · De oplossing
Undulating ribs distribute the load
The solution consists of undulating ribs on the inside of the dispenser.
They support and stabilise the towel stack and distribute the pressure. As a result the bottom sheet is relieved and the stack stays in place during refilling. The dispenser is refilled from the front and supports multiple towel formats.

More capacity with attention to everyday work
The result is an XL dispenser that combines greater stock with controlled dispensing.
Practical tests confirmed that the design was intuitive to refill and practical to maintain. The increased capacity reduces the number of refill events; the internal support decreases the risk of tearing and jamming.
